For Dubai Design Week this year, Raw Design+Build collaborates with The Cave DXB art space and commissions 15+ artists to reflect the uniqueness and character each piece of wood carries.

Unlike non-living material like fabric or metal, wood is a living object that carries stories within its grains. As time passes, each piece of wood evolves and its story lives on. The commissioned artists are given Raw’s famous reclaimed hexagon wood and invited to inscribe on it their expressions. The idea is to stay away from imposing a certain theme onto the work, or limit the artist’s expression. Instead, each artist will approach the reclaimed wood piece from their own personal perspective. Raw is keen on discovering how RAWness will be approached. Raw will transform the pieces into functional side tables and display them in November at The Cave DXB. Through this collaboration, RAW attempts to explore the importance of difference for commoning to happen. To co-craft a world for the transition of a post waste society, finding common grounds without abandoning difference is necessary.
To create a bridge between the two worlds, the expressive world and the world unaware of the value that could be gained by the expressive world. We are working with amazing talents in the region to create functional art!
